TOUR 2: Tempelhof Airport

A fascinating tour through the largest historic monument in the world. An icon of national socialist architecture constructed in the second half of the 1930s, the Tempelhof Airport building unexpectedly became the symbol of resistance against the communist dictatorship during the Cold War. Located in the American sector in post-war Berlin, it was turned into an airbase for the U.S. Air Force, which played a strategic role during the Berlin Blockade in 1948-1949, as the Soviets besieged the western sectors of Berlin and the Western allies organized an air bridge to supply the population. Much more than the visit of a simple airport for plane freaks, this tour invites you on an authentic voyage through time that will transport you from the very beginnings of the history of flight at the end of the 19th century to the fall of the Berlin Wall at the end of the 20th.
